Sculpture/Bookshelf in metal
Exhibited at Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, Rome
Commissioned for an exhibition within the historic Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome—a residence renowned for its centuries-old art collection and its ties to Pope Innocent X—”Statera” by Gustavo Martini engages with themes of balance and human aspiration.
The sculpture comprises four metal triangles: two forming the base and two poised above, creating a structure that appears on the verge of tipping. This deliberate asymmetry evokes a sense of precarious equilibrium, reflecting the perpetual human pursuit of stability amidst uncertainty.
Martini’s minimalist and geometric approach emphasizes precision and rationality, hallmarks of his work. The cold, metallic surfaces contrast with the implied motion of the piece, suggesting a dynamic tension between form and gravity.
“Statera” resonates with the Palazzo’s rich history, bridging contemporary design with classical heritage. It invites viewers to contemplate the delicate balance inherent in both art and life, echoing the timeless quest for harmony that defines the human experience.
