Selected for the Laguna Art Prize — 20th Anniversary Exhibition, Shanghai
Curated by Huang Yi
The average time spent nowadays looking at an image is 1.5 seconds. 30 Secondi proposes a physical counterpoint to the fleeting nature of digital visual culture. This vertical sculpture—echoes the proportions of a smartphone but stands three meters tall—translating thirty seconds of image-scrolling into a tangible, contemplative structure. Composed of a U-shaped aluminum profile, the work is segmented into twenty evenly spaced niches. At the back of each 15 cm module, a black-painted surface evokes both depth and absence. This repeating void challenges the viewer to reset their visual instincts and re-educate the way images are perceived.
Rather than functioning as passive content, each empty space becomes an invitation to linger—to engage with stillness and reclaim the capacity to contemplate. In doing so, Martini confronts the acceleration of contemporary perception, suggesting that even in a hyper-visual world, slowness must be consciously rebuilt. In 2025, 30 Secondi will be presented in Shanghai as part of the Laguna Art Prize — 20th Anniversary Exhibition. Martini was selected as one of among the most significant artists of the Prize’s past editions.
